Teams should be punished for poor quality pitches

In Saturday’s draw at Charlton Athletic, Birmingham City had to play on a pitch that was truly awful.

The Valley pitch was not of the quality that should be expected from a team in the second tier of English football. I have played on many better pitches at Sunday League level. (more…)

Unbelievable Jeff! Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick

I have never been the biggest fan of midfielder Jeff Hendrick, apart from the wonder strike at the City Ground, has he changed this season?

Last season saw him emerge onto Nigel Clough’s first team, even keeping then young player of the year James Bailey out the side. I believed, particularly after his winning goal at Nottingham Forest, that he was overrated by some supporters. (more…)

Yours, disillusioned with the modern game

I’ve got to be brutally honest, I’ve struggled to find anything worth writing about since the end of last season.

I purposely didn’t want to get caught up in the Euros as I knew that it was going to end in despair. I think we all did. I mean, it’s not me being negative, it’s not me being defeatist, I think the word I’m looking for is realistic. Plus I have the fail safe that I’m half-Italian, not that it got me any more success.
