With the comments recently made by Danny Rose,

It not only illustrates the thoughts of an individual but could reflect the thoughts running through the club.

Tottenham Hotspur's lack of transfer activityMany believe they are a few players away from a Premier League title, which Rose echoed by saying “As a starting 11 we have one of the best in the league, without a shadow of a doubt, but after that…”

In the defence of Daniel Levy, over the years strength in depth hasn’t been a concern for Tottenham since the expectations were so low and if they went season after season trophyless it wasn’t a big concern. Finishing 2nd was certainly viewed as an over achievement.

With Tottenham proving their quality, now more than ever, should the owner put money into the club? arguably he is already doing that. A new stadium will certainly set Tottenham up for the future. With fans demanding instant success off the back of arguably their 2 best seasons in the Premier League many believe it’ll only take another world class signing, it’s hard to see any other reason why the owner would be so hesitant to splash the cash.

Fans will hope they’re saving out for a marquee signing especially after talks Gareth Bale might be available. Spurs have a clause in his contract where they can match any bid accepted from an English club by Real Madrid. If at the end of August Ross Barkley remains the only signing, there will certainly be discontent throughout the club. Danny Rose said, “I’d love to see 2 or 3 and not players you have to Google and say, ‘Who’s that?’ I mean well-known players.”

If the reason for the lack of transfer activity is to allocate funds to pay for the new stadium then nothing the fans say or do will change that plan. Nineteen ‘home’ games at Wembley Stadium may come as a blessing or a curse, far too often a stadium move has negatively affected the home team, West Ham’s recent move, in 2006 when Arsenal moved to the Emirates Stadium they went on a nine-year trophy drought. Teams will relish going to Wembley. While on the other hand Tottenham have a pretty dire recent record at Wembley.

Between now and the end of the transfer window we’ll surely see a lot of players linked with Spurs. The Daily Mail have reported that Tottenham are close to sealing their first signing of the summer with Southampton keeper Paulo Gazzaniga. I don’t think these are the sorts of signing the fans want to see to start winning trophies.

Danny Rose isn’t particularly pushing for a move or showing his ‘player power’, he’s simply being ambitious. Footballers have relatively short careers and ambition to win trophies, and to play with top players, especially when in their prime.
