It has been reported by the Telegraph this week that Liverpool are interested in Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,

Despite the Gunners putting a £35 million price tag next to his name.

Three reasons why Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would fit in at LiverpoolArsenal’s valuation of the Englishman is not scaring off Jurgen Klopp as he looks to add the unsettled winger to his squad for next season. The 23-year-old is about to enter his final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates and Klopp is looking to take advantage of the situation.

Due to the lack of time left on his contract, the Reds believe they can acquire his services cheaper, and the winger would be a shrewd acquisition.

Adds to a squad that severely lacks depth

It has been common knowledge for a while that Klopp’s Liverpool have lacked the depth when compared to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, and it again was exposed on the weekend.

Liverpool are currently missing key players through injury such as Adam Lallana, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane. Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino were benched on the weekend at Stoke City due to other factors which saw the promising talents such as Ben Woodburn and Trent Alexander-Arnold get their opportunity.

Until Coutinho and Firmino were introduced the Reds never looked like winning. The lack of depth was exposed and that is something that needs to change as of next season due to the Reds looking likely to clinch a spot in a European cup competition.

That is nothing against the young talents such as Woodburn and Alexander-Arnold. They will go on and be big players for Liverpool, but the Reds need to be calling upon bigger figures. Liverpool cannot afford to enter next season with a lack of depth if they are serious about challenging on all fronts.

Oxlade-Chamberlain would just give Klopp another attacking option going forward and with European football on the horizon next season Liverpool need far greater numbers.

Adds to a squad that lacks pace

With the exception of Mane, no player in the squad has the ability to beat most opposition defenders with pure pace. Oxlade-Chamberlain is quick and will be a great replacement if the Senegalese happened to get injured.

Everyone has seen the difference Mane has made simply by how quick he is. He has given Liverpool another dimension in their attack that they did not have previously and one does get the feeling that Oxlade-Chamberlain could have the same impact.

While £35 million may be a gamble, he is the type of player that Klopp could improve massively. Under Arsene Wenger, he has not reached the levels many believed he would. Klopp has a rich record in working with young talent and getting the best out of them. Plus, Oxlade-Chamberlain needs a change and one could see him doing quite well at Liverpool.

He is a versatile young player

While playing along the flanks is his preferred position, Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown this season at Arsenal that he can play in central-midfield.

His performances in the middle of the park have been very solid. You also have to take into account that it has been a disastrous season at the Emirates, but Oxlade-Chamberlain has held his own when most have fallen into the ground.

Klopp comes across as someone who likes versatility in his players and Oxlade-Chamberlain very much is that player. The majority of the time, we would see Oxlade-Chamberlain out wide, but it will comfort Klopp knowing he has more than one string to his bow.

The asking price is what is concerning most Liverpool supporters, but it does sound as if Klopp has a fair transfer kit to work with this upcoming summer window.

Many questioned the arrival of Mane and he has turned out to be one of Liverpool’s best players. If the fans keep the faith in young Oxlade-Chamberlain then who knows, maybe history will repeat itself.
