West Ham United owners David Sullivan and David Gold have broken their vow of silence to deliver a new pledge to fans.
West Ham’s owners have been infamous for the very public way they conduct their business.
It is a fact not lost on the club’s supporters over the years. Last season Hammers fans were protesting against Sullivan, Gold and their vice-chairman Karren Brady.
Angry at the way they run the club, many were demanding they sell up. Fans were furious about a host of issues. But the board’s conduct in public was a major bone of contention.
Since those protests in March Sullivan made a pledge to cease interviews, as reported in a meeting with the West Ham United Independent Supporters Association.
Sullivan took vow of silence to appease fans
In minutes – which were corroborated by Sullivan in the interests of fairness – sent to members following the meeting eight months ago, Sullivan took a vow of silence while admitting he was powerless to stop Brady continuing with her controversial column in The Sun newspaper.
Owners make new pledge to fans
Well Sullivan and Gold have ended that vow of silence to make a new pledge to West Ham fans. Speaking on the club’s official website the pair issued a joint statement reacting to news that West Ham can increase their capacity at the London Stadium. And they also moved to reassure fans they are fully committed to making the team successful.
‘We are doing everything we can’
There were certainly no complaints in the summer when the duo sanctioned an unprecedented £100 million transfer spend.
That came after splashing the cash to appoint Manuel Pellegrini. The Chilean is one of only three managers in the Premier League to have won the title.
West Ham will not grow if that kind of investment is not made on a consistent basis, though. So it will encourage supporters to hear the owners are still hungry to push the club on.
