It’s not just talent that wins championships

Manchester United recently secured their 20th league title in commanding fashion.

Robin van Persie scored a fantastic hat trick – his second goal to be remembered for years to come. People say this team isn’t as good as the United team of 1999, and I’d have to agree, but their mentality is just as good as the 1999 team. (more…)

Top 10 number 10’s in the past 10 years

Over the years the world has seen the greatest players in the number 10 role.

Pele and Diego Maradona can only be described as the most technically gifted players to grace the pitch. A lot of previous No.10 lists have included players such as George Best and Johan Cruyff. I would like to point out that I consider these players as wingers and this is precisely why Cristiano Ronaldo won’t feature in this list. (more…)

Some Saturdays I like to go to the DW Stadium

It’s one of the most predictable jokes out there.

Every time Wigan Athletic have been summoned to appear on the box, social media likes to pick up on the empty seats littered about the DW Stadium. Cue the jokes about Wigan fans dressing up as seats and portraying the sad, lonely image of around eleven fans turning up for the match. (more…)

The Bluebirds on brink of top flight but Malky stays grounded

If ever there was a moment that has summed up Cardiff City’s 2012/13 season, it happened following Saturday’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

With his side now merely needing to take a single point from their remaining four npower Championship fixtures, a journalist asked manager Malky Mackay after the final whistle: “How will you keep your players grounded now that you are so close to the Premier League?” (more…)

Sky Blue Trust, white knights and silver linings at Coventry City

In the couple of months since I last wrote, things have taken a slight, er, downturn at Coventry City.

Momentum could prove key for Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa

The fight to avoid relegation has never been so closely fought as it is this year.

Only eight points separate 10th from 18th, and a change in a team’s form can radically alter their finishing position, even with only six games to go for some teams. (more…)

The 1979 FA Cup Final, where did all the passion go?

My first memory of a cup final was being taken to the 1971 FA Cup Final.

I remember wearing a Arsenal rosette even though I had decided that I was a Manchester United fan and was keen to understand how far London was from Manchester. (more…)

Can Galatasaray prove their superpower potential?

Given that they have the best domestic league and cup record in the history of Turkish football..

It is perhaps unsurprising that at the time of writing, Galatasaray sit seven points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. What is perhaps less expected is their success in this seasons Champions League. (more…)
